First text message not sending

Twice in the last week I have started a new conversation with a contact and the messages failed to send, disappeared from the conversation, and the conversation never showed up in the conversation list. I have not been able to repeat it intentionally. This happened on two different days with two different contacts. Maybe I managed to type a name without actually grabbing the contact's number? But it gave me no warning, the message just disappeared after I hit send.
