Space key double tapping

My space key keeps double tapping when I hit it, which adds periods throughout my sentences unintentionally. It's obviously a keyboard setting that adds a period on double tap. In this feedback text input area, it just does two spaces and no period, so maybe it's a messages app setting. But I still don't think the keyboard should double space so easily
